National Geographic wanted to create a series of original short films to promote their first-ever scripted TV series, Genius, which depicted the multi-faceted life of Albert Einstein. They reached out to filmmakers to produce short films based on quotes by the genius himself.
Director/ Writer/ Producer/ Editor
We crafted this short story from concept to finish based on Einstein’s famous quote: “Only a free individual can make a discovery.”
In addition to writing and directing, I also produced and edited this short film.
I brought on the talented Sara Ross-Samko to the project as our director of photography, whose artistic eye and expertise in pixilation animation was crucial in bringing my surreal vision to life.
The sound design of Andres Boulton along with the musical genius of Elik Alvarez gave the film the final touch it needed to tell a powerful story.
Publications and Results
The film debuted on the brand’s social channels and video on demand as part of the National Geographic 10 Days of Genius Short Film Festival generating over 100K views. Globally, GENIUS averaged nearly 3.5MM viewers per episode, hitting record numbers in most key markets. National Geographic Magazine's Genius cover story sold 100K issues; that makes it above average and the third best-selling cover for FY2017 to date.
